Both Mike and I wear glasses so it's pretty likely that H&C may need them at some stage.
From a purely sartorial standpoint, I've kept my fingers crossed that they didn't need them until they are adults because I've always been underwhelmed by the optical options for kids.
But. But. I just came across a French website, Very French Gangsters, with cool frames for kids. Tres adorable, non?
Phew! We're so glad it's Saturday in the Whatley house.
This past week I started a new work contract and was home a lot less. On Friday morning, a weepy Charlotte asked me where I was going. "To work" I said, to which she replied "When will this stop?!"
A major mummy ouch moment. So this weekend is all about filling my kids up with the Mummy love they have been missing.
This morning, we talked about what they'd like to do and they both agreed they'd like to bake a cake. They'd like to bake a cake more than anything in this world. So we're baking a cake.
And not any type of cake. An unbirthday cake. Hunter's taken the role of creative director and is already imagining up some fantastical creations. (I'm hoping he lands on something a little less complicated than the "tiger drinking from a lake under a palm tree next to a group of baby penguins sitting on blocks of ice " birthday cake we made for his 4th birthday.)

Sissy + Marley have created some of my favourite spaces for little people so I was delighted when I received another email from Chelsea with photos of one of their most recent projects. (Check out the stripes on the ceiling!)
Sissy + Marley were engaged to produce a nursery that was modern, fresh, eco-friendly and polished for Gabriel, who was in his mother's belly when the nursery was designed.
Sissy + Marley selected Oeuf furniture and a Monte rocker to create the basis for the modern nursery. The elephant cushion is custom from Sissy + Marley to coordinate with the artwork featured over the change table.
The elephant and alphabet artwork are custom pieces by Sissy + Marley and the bookshelf features toys from LuckyBoySunday.

Easter is upon us and I've started gathering the bits and pieces I affectionately call 'the little details' that (I hope) turn holidays into really special times our children will remember.
I ordered these real chocolate filled eggs (which are now on sale) for our celebrations. Then I found this recipe for... brownie filled eggs.
Making them seems so much more special than having simply bought them, so I'm going to suggest my Mum and I make these together while we're staying with her over Easter.
Some of the best memories I have are of cooking with my mother when recipes went disasterously wrong and we stood doubled over in the kitchen laughing at the results.
Our most recent cooking experience together was assembling this cake and while it turned out perfectly, I'll always remember how we giggled at the height of the cake as we put it together it in the wee hours of the morning before Charlotte's party.

Starting blogging again wasn't a decision I came to lightly. Blogging was something that filled me up and gave me joy when I was struggling in other areas of my life.
Mine's not an unfamiliar story. I was a new mother with postnatal depression reaching out to an online community when I felt too fragile to connect with the real world around me. Writing little. lovely. helped me focus on the pretty things in life. The small details in the every day that were beautiful, worth noticing and appreciating when I was struggling.
I came to a point where I thought that I needed to stop blogging in order to prove I was better.
But during the months where I didn't blog, I missed the friends I'd met online who did and didn't know me. I wondered how they were, what they were doing, where they had been and how much their children had grown.
I had started to appreciate the beauty in the real world but realised I needed the beauty of the online world just as much.
Mummy bloggers were born before the birth of the internet and most of us still feel like we need to take a connection into real life to make it count. But I've realised that this type of connection is the same regardless of whether they're made over a keyboard or coffee.
Beth from Baby Mac wrote this eloquent post on the radical nature of what we do in this wonderful little online world we've created.
One thing I know for sure is in a year's time I'll be proud of the small contribution I've made. And in Beth's words "I wouldn't change a motherfucking thing about it along the way."
